Lovely Leucothoe are just the most stunning small shrub at winter colour showing off. 

There are a wide range to choose from each with different leaf form, foliage colour, size and height.  So there should be at least one to fill the spot!

All Leucothoe are evergreen, will tolerate low light levels and as such are excellent in shade and need an acidic soil.  Provide these vital ingredients and Leucothoe will continue to colour up your winter days for years to come.  Plant amongst other winter interest plants to really accentuate the glory of these glossy evergreens.  Alternatively plant in containers for some extra winter interest in ericaceous compost. 

Leucothoe ‘Scarletta’ is a startling evergreen shrub with long slim evergreen leaves emerging red – bronze and aging to glossy green.  The new red foliage is continued for at least 6 months of the year and is dense in appearance.  With the onset of autumn the foliage also takes on tints of dark wine adding to the appeal.  Height 1.5m x spread 1.5m  Leucothoe

Leucothoe font. ‘Rainbow’  has glossy,  variagated creamy, yellow and pink foliage on arching stems.  Height 1.5m x spread 90cm

Leucothoe keis. ‘Burning Love’ has glossy crimson leaves in the spring that mature to green in the summer and take on a scarlet colour in the autumn and winter.  Height 40cm x spread 60cm  

Leucothoe axil. ‘Curly Red’ is a Marmite plant - you either love it or hate it! The evergreen leaves are curled and the shrub has an upright habit.  The whorled looking leaves turn from red in the autumn to purple in the winter.  It is a great shrub that will reach 1m in height and 60cm spread.
