Bay Trees in Pots – Trade Tips
For best results when planting Laurus nobilis in containers:
- Choose pots at least 8cm larger than the existing container
- Ensure excellent drainage using Hydroleca
- Pot with a mix of John Innes No. 3 and multipurpose compost
- Repot every 2–3 years
- Feed regularly with a slow-release fertiliser
- Water consistently — irrigation systems work brilliantly
- Prune in summer using secateurs (cut the stem, not the leaf)
- Remove any shoots forming on bare stems in standard forms
