One of the few palms that produces branches and can appear either stemless or multi stemmed. Originally thought to originate from the Mediterranean area Chamaerops are perfect for the UK climate.
Chamaerops humilis
The most cultivated of Chamaerops Palms with deeply cut fan shape leaves, grey beneath. Multiple stems appear from the main stem with the foliage produced at the top of each stem. Often referred to as the Fan Palm.
Due to the branched nature of Chamaerops humilis it is extremely tolerant of windy sites and will grow the same width as it is tall. Altogether a totally different shape and from other Palms. Height and spread 1.5-2.5m.
Very versatile in city, coastal, pots, roof gardens and architectural gardens. Great in full sun to partial shade. Hardy down to -15OC.
