Plants that are considered drought tolerant tend to originate from Mediterranean dry areas or drier parts of Asia and will survive in poor soils and little water once established. They are often used where water access is limited, as low maintenance options or in dry areas and gravel gardens.
Here are a few drought tolerant plant choices:
- Verbena bonariensis
- Aeonium arb. 'Atropurpureum'
- Agapanthus afr. 'Albus'
- Tulbaghia violacea
- Myrtus communis
- Hesperaloe parviflora
- Yucca ele. 'Jewel'
- Cordyline aus. 'Torbay Dazzler'
- Agave geminiflora
Most of the plants mentioned will also require a sheltered spot. Some of the plants will need to be moved inside during the winter.
