Water. Water. Water

Water. Water. Water

Advice in this hot weather is to stay hydrated. The same goes for plants too!

Whether planted this year or in the last three years all plants will benefit from some irrigation in this extreme hot weather.

To make the most of the water and ensure your plants benefit properly, follow these simple steps.

Water in the evening to reduce evaporation

Water the soil surface, not through the foliage

Take your time, water slowly as this will give more chance of the water permeating the soil and getting to the rootzone

Look for signs of drought stress on newly planted plants – see Factsheet 15 and 16 for a full list of signs and what to do

Mulch with bark as soon as possible after watering to help hold moisture in the soil
