Nursery Technician
Hours: 42.5 hours per week (Saturday AM on a rota basis).
Salary: Starting salary £26,984.10 depending on experience and relevant qualifications.

Overall role purpose
To carry out nursery work for the effective running of the nursery, including unloading lorries, accurate labeling, after care and merchandising of plant/shrub/tree stock.
Scope
Work as part of a team to help run and maintain the nursery, to a high and professional standard, whilst providing excellent customer service.
Key accountabilities:
- Watering of plant stock (relative to size, species and stage of growth as well as season and weather); knowing when to water, knowing the frequency, knowing how to water, knowing what method to water with
- Accurate labeling of plant stock
- Plant health; understanding and ensuring the correct water source is used, ensuring correct drainage conditions are maintained and understanding and ensuring the correct growing medium is used for plants across site
- Bio-security awareness and reporting
- Plant stock rotation
- Seasonal plant maintenance; plant husbandry; tending plants from small to large specimens
- Ensuring plant stock quality and escalating issues/potential risks to Nursery Supervisor/Nursery Manager in a timely and appropriate manner
- Positively challenging colleagues to adhere to H&S guidelines and championing H&S across the site
- Control, management and safe use of tools, equipment and nursery management consumables
- Maintaining of a clean and tidy site and upholding general nursery hygiene standards
- Working outside weeding, deadheading, clearing old stock, tidying nursery beds etc.
- Manage the handling of waste products on site into the appropriate disposal stream
- Maintain plant healthy accreditation across site
Additional/flexible tasks
- Assist unloading of deliveries and ensure all plant passport numbers are recorded on the Goods-in check sheet (UK and EU)
- Assist in other areas of the business as and when required
- Adhere to all H&S guidelines and legislation
- Ensure that uniform is clean and presentable at all times

Essential skills
- Excellent customer care and service – E
- Good working knowledge and experience of horticulture (not essential as full training will be given) – D

- Diploma in Horticulture Practice or equivalent qualifications (not essential as full training will be given) – D
- Strong organisational skills – E
- Nursery experience (not essential however must demonstrate a genuine interest in horticulture) – D
- Demonstrate good attention to detail and work well under pressure during the peak season - E
- GCSE Qualifications (Level 4 and above essential for English and Math) - D
