Short description

Lantern Tree An unusual large evergreen shrub with unusual red drooping flowers. The branched shrub has upright shoots and very dark green leaves. In late spring lantern / urn shaped pendant red flowers are produced and hang down from the underside of the branches. The flowers stalks appear in the autumn but do not open until the following spring and provide a fabulous show of exotic red flowers in any protected garden location. Prefers partial shade. Can tolerate full sun as long as the roots are kept cool and shaded. Height 6m, spread 5m. Choose a moist, well-drained, humus-rich acid soil.
