Ericaceous plants. Rhododendrons Rock

Ericaceous plants. Rhododendrons Rock

There has been much written about Rhododendron over the years and they are of course the obvious plant choice for any situation with ericaceous soil.

Come April, May and June Rhododendron fill the border with their vibrant blooms that just buzz with colour, shape and of course, bees!

The range of flower colours is a bit mind boggling.  However whatever colour you want, there is a Rhododendron to fill that gap.  Rhododendrons rose to the height of their popularity in the Victorian era and have continued to hold their own ever since.  Valuable as stand-alone plants, planted in borders, planted in groups for a floral display, happy in pots and even small hedging varieties there is something to please everyone in our range.

Provender Nurseries currently have over 50 varieties in stock ranging from pure white to deep passionate purple.  Held on site in our Rhododendron house we have some fantastically structured plants, positively dripping with buds that are just beginning to burst open with huge blousy flowers.

Rhododendrons have the added bonus of being rabbit resistant.  They thrive in an ericaceous soil and should not be planted too deep as they have shallow roots.  They are best planted in dappled shade in a moisture retentive soil.

Here are some images of some of the lovely options we have in stock.  Keep an eye on the website for stock as we will be getting more in before May when they flower like no one’s business.
