Garrya. Silky Tassels Bush

Garrya. Silky Tassels Bush

Commonly known as the Silk Tassel Bush and at this time of year you can see exactly why.

Garrya elliptica has long tassels of silvery white catkins emerge slowly and subtly in the winter months reaching their full length in January before opening to reveal small greenish- yellow flowers dusted with pollen in February to March.

The leaves are slightly wavy to the edge and are a great backdrop to later flowering plants.

A brilliant plant choice with evergreen foliage that can withstand pollution in urban areas and exposed, coastal positions too.  Good for a sunny to semi-shaded position.
