Nandina. Magical Colour

Nandina. Magical Colour

Nandina are magical in the winter months providing a kaleidoscope of colours that last well into the spring and often beyond.

From the same plant family as Berberis, yet you would never guess the simple overall form of a Nandina make sit a great choice for accent planting.

Noted for winter blush colour to the leaves, white flowers and berries this small evergreen shrub lends itself well to many styles of planting and is generally pest and disease free to boot.  Easy to grow and drought tolerant once established Nandina may well become even more widely used in the future.

Mainly known for their red foliage colour, there are now some newer Nandina options that have different coloured foliage:

  • Magical Lemon & Lime.  New foliage emerges green- yellow turning to a deeper lime green during the growing season.
  • Twilight.  The foliage is splashed with dazzling pink and white.  Sounds strange but really work.
  • Blush Pink.  Foliage emerges pink changing to pillar box red over the season
  • Fire Power.  Deep orange foliage becoming red over the growing season and into winter
  • Obsessed.  New foliage emerges fiery red changing to green over the growing season and red again in the autumn
  • Gulf Stream.  Foliage flushed bronze - red
