Specimen Evergreen Hedging - some of the usual suspects

Specimen Evergreen Hedging - some of the usual suspects

Popular favourites in the specimen evergreen hedging section are good for purpose for a reason – they work.  They do what they are supposed to do; provide a solid hedge that can be used for a windbreak, privacy and as a backdrop to other planting.

Popular options include:

Elaeagnus x ebbingei .  A popular evergreen shrub with lovely leaf colour of green dusted with grey – silver spotting and a white underside.  In the autumn hugely fragrant small silver fragrant flowers are produced in clusters in large numbers.  Suits most soils in a sunny position.  Height 4 metres.

Osmanthus x burkwoodii.  An evergreen shrub with tough, shiny, oval-to-ovate, dark-green leaves. Towards the middle or end of spring very fragrant, tubular, white flowers appear. Height 3 metres.

And where would we be without the good old Prunus laurocerasus Rotundifolia.  A great all round hedging option especially for larger areas.  Cherry Laurel is an Evergreen vigorous shrub with large glossy green leaves.  Spikes white flowers in April, followed by black fruits. Suits most soils, shade tolerant. Height 3 metres
