Specimen Evergreen Hedging - some unusual supsects

Ilex maximowicziana Kanehirae.  This is an excellent alternative to Buxus hedging where height is needed.  Faster growing than the more commonly known Ilex crenata this Ilex will reach 2m in height with pruning to keep in shape only required once a year.  You can prune more often to give a more compact finish if required.  The small, glossy, evergreen foliage forms a dense background for planting in front.    Plant in slightly acidic soil.

Euonymus japonicus Benkomasaki.  A seldom seen, slow growing evergreen with an upright, columnar habit with small, dark green leaves forming a dense background.  Good for containers or narrow borders.  Plant in sun to partial shade.   Great for areas of high air pollution.  Height 1.8-2m.  Spread 1.2m
