Last week, Richard, Liz and James took a trip to Hyde Park to meet up with Matthew Pottage, Head of Horticulture & Landscape Strategy at The Royal Parks.
Since stepping into the role last year, Matt has inspired and empowered the Head Gardeners across the parks to take on a variety of exciting projects. For example, rejuvenating the Hyde Park Garden Dell, which now features striking exotic plants and fresh planting.
Among the unusual, exotic and fascinating plants introduced are:
- Pseudopanax ferox
- Fascicularia bicolor
- Colocasia
These plants are often described as plants that need to be moved inside/protected during winter. However, Matt has carefully assessed the park’s microclimate and is confident they can thrive outdoors year-round.
Many of the plants at the park were supplied by Provender Nurseries, including the ones mentioned above.
