Zelkova

Zelkova

Zelkova serrata is a stunning tree that may not be a plant you find on every quoting list, however it is an excellent choice for autumn foliage colour.

The serrated green leaves turn to fantastic orange and yellow in the autumn. As the tree matures the smooth grey bark peels to reveal orange coloured patches beneath.

Being a member of the Elm family, it displays many of the same characteristics and is resistant to Dutch Elm Disease making it an excellent alternative where native Elm is required.

Versatile and a great option for a changing climate, Zelkova is tolerant of drought, flooding, high temperatures and is great for planting in urban areas due to its tolerance of urban conditions.

The branches are upright with the tree having an open, broad spreading habit. This is a perfect choice where space is not limited in open spaces, parks and larger gardens.

Zelkova serrata reaches 20m H x 18m S in full sun to partial shade in any soil type - as long as moist but well drained. Hardy to around -20oC.

Zelkova serrata 'Green Vase' is a smaller tree in maturity reaching 12m H and 5m S.
