Let's talk feed

Let's talk feed

Every plant benefit from a feed and with the amount of wet weather we have had over the last few months, this is never truer as the high rainfall has more than likely leached out any nutrients in the soil. After such heavy rainfall any plant whether newly planted or established will need a good supply of nutrients as it is essential to sustain this years’ growth. This applies to the soil in a border, a pot or lawn area.

Feed for borders

For best results, use a fertiliser in granular or pelleted form rather than liquid feed this early in the season. Liquid fertiliser applied now will wash out of the root zone quickly. An application of a good fertiliser in March / April will prove very fruitful (!) providing everything your plants need for a healthy 2024 growing season.

Sometimes, applying a feed can be overlooked, however we have made it easy for you highlighting three feed options for trees and shrubs below that will need to be applied only once.

One application options

One application will last all season and once done, will not need to be repeated this year. Easy!

Growmore has all three of the major nutrients in equal quantity providing a good all round feed for use all around borders and for permanent plants in pots. The equal quantity of N-P-K means that the roots, foliage and flowers all get a boost.

6X Natural Plant Feed is a highly concentrated feed providing all the nutrients and trace elements required for one growing season. Up to 6 times stronger than farmyard manure. Part of our Going Green range.

Bonemeal is another good fertiliser that can be used on established plants during spring as they are coming into leaf. It slowly releases the nutrients within, providing long term nutrition for a wide range of plants. It is recommended that is applied around the root zone of the plant you are feeding and gently forked into the soil surface. Part of our Going Green range.
