Ferns

We have a fabulous selection of ferns here on site.

Ferns are versatile, pest and disease free and require very little maintenance.

Here are a few of our favourite ferns:

Asplenium scolopendrium is a very popular evergreen fern. It produces strap shaped, glossy, bright green fronds which can grow 40cm long. Asplenium scolopendrium is an invaluable plant for adding structure to shaded areas.

Blechnum spicant will grow in rotten tree stumps or moist lime-free soils, in a shady position. The native fern has neat clumps of comb-like fronds. Available in a 2L pot.

Dryopteris erythrosora a hardy striking oriental fern, this plant is semi evergreen but keeps its leaves in mild areas. Dryopteris erythrosora works best in humus rich soil in partial shade. The fronds are a glossy copper colour when they are young, turning to a lovely dark green as they mature.

Polystichum setiferum this native soft shield fern is easy-growing with lance-shaped fronds. It prefers light shade and suits well drained soil. Extremely hardy.
