Well ½ standards really!  Our courtyard area is jammed pack full of ½ standard options ideal as alternatives to Laurus nobilis for a formal look in containers.

We have:

  • Arbutus unedo which is ideal for a spot in full sun
  • Callistemon citrinus Splendens for something a bit different
  • Ligustrum delavayanum an excellent alternative to Buxus
  • Elaeagnus x ebbingei with fragrant silver flowers in the spring
  • Photinia x fraseri Little Red Robin a compact form of Red Robin with flushes of new red growth in the spring
  • Cercis canadensis Forest Pansy which will lift the fantastic heart shaped leaves to head height
  • Eriobotrya japonica with its dramatic dark green leaves
  • Ilex crenata Kinme, another excellent alternative to Buxus
  • Olea europea with loads of options in head size, shape and overall plant form
