Sambucus racemosa 'Lemony Lace'
Description: A popular introduction with a lovely golden-green foliage that is deeply cut to provide a fine lacy appearance, this medium-sized, deciduous shrub is useful in many garden situations. In late spring to the early summer, small flat heads of creamy-white flowers are produced in abundance, followed by clusters of shiny red berries in late summer/early autumn to provide additional interest.
Uses: Good at the back of the border or as a focal plant in a more contemporary garden.
Climate/Position: Full sun or partial shade.
Height/Spread: Height and spread to 2.5 meters.
Soil Requirements: A moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil.
Pruning: Generally this is a less vigorous form than many elders and does best with minimal pruning. Remove dead wood and cut back to a shaped framework in late winter.
Special Requirements: Mulching in spring ensures the soil remains moist around the root area.
