Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula'
Description: A graceful small tree with weeping branches of silvery willow like leaves. In spring the twiggy branches are covered in lovely creamy white blossom and some small pear fruits may form but are not edible.
An excellent choice for the smaller garden but can be used as background in borders, as specimen plants, or in pairs to create a formal effect.
Suitable for urban planting as tolerant of pollution.
Climate/Position: Sunny position
Height/Spread: 5 meters if pruned, up to 10 metres if unpruned
Soil Requirements: Any free draining moist soil
Pruning: Does respond well to pruning so the twiggy growth can be cut back in spring to retain the required shape. if left untouched with form a large mound of twiggy branches reaching to the floor.
