Phlomis purpurea

Description: A shrubby Phlomis with wrinkly grey green/ silvery leaves which are evergreen and so remain throughout winter.  The soft purple flowers are produced in whorles around the stem in flushes throughout the summer.

Uses: Good for use in sunny borders, Mediterranean and coastal planting.

Climate/Position: Full sun. Drought tolerant.

Height/Spread: 1.2 metres

Soil Requirements: Will tolerate poor dry soils but good in any well drained soils.

Pruning: Cut back older stems if needed and the plant will regenerate well.

Special Requirements: If late spring frost has nipped the early shoots then these can be trimmed.

Additional Interest: Originating in areas of the Iberian peninsula - Spain and Portugal on poor coastal and mountainous areas.
