Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Blue Spire'

Description: A late flowering shrub which has white stems and silvery blue aromatic foliage which is finely cut and therefore of interest for much of the year.  In summer, the stems are topped with large panicles of lavender blue flowers which give a soft hazy look from afar.  Good when planted with mediteranean plants and also with grasses which are of interest in late summer.

Uses: Dry sunny borders. Mediterranean garden and with grasses.

Climate/Position: Sunny position

Height/Spread: 1 metre x 1metre

Soil Requirements: Any type of soil but should be free draining. Tolerant of poorly fertilized soils and coastal planting.

Pruning: The growth can become straggly if left unpruned.  Prune back hard to near ground level in April.  The tips can be trimmed after flowering.

Special Requirements: Free draining soil is essential.
