Kniphofia 'Papaya Popsicle'

Description: A new and compact form of the popular red hot poker. The mound of fine grass like dark green leaves are topped in summer with heads of rich 'papaya' coloured flowers on spikes.  The flowers are paler orange at the base with deeper shades further up the spike giving a fabulous show especially when grown with other warm colours.  Mass of flower spikes produced through summer.

Uses: Very good for use in sunny borders, courtyard gardens and coastal/seaside areas. This compact form is good for the smaller garden and can be grown in a larger container.

Climate/Position: Requires full sun. High drought tolerance.

Height/Spread: 50cm x 30cm

Soil Requirements: Must have well drained soils especially in winter. 

Pruning: Remove flower spikes after flowering. remove dead leaves in autumn winter to tidy the plant before spring.

Additional Interest: Kniphofias originate in the mountains throughout southern Africa. Many new introductions now give a range of colours, sizes and flowering period for garden use. This form was introduced in the Popsicle™ series from Terra Nova Nurseries of Oregon, USA.
