Hedera algeriensis 'Gloire de Marengo'
Description: A vigorous climber which is self clinging and so does not need with bright, glossy, variegated green leaves held on deep red leaf stalks. When established the large heart shaped leaves produce a dense carpet or wall of variegated leaves.

Uses: Good for covering walls and fences and will brighten up darker areas.  Can be used as ground cover too but can become invasive as it will root as it grows.

Climate/Position:  Any aspect from full sun to partial shade but preferring a sheltered site to prevent winter damage.

Height/Spread:  Up to 4 meters height and spread.

Soil Requirements:  Any well drained soil.  Tolerant of chalky dry soils.

Pruning: Can be left unpruned but to keep the size under control or to rejuvenate older or straggly shoots then cut back the long shoots at the end of winter to encourage fresh new growth.

Additional Interest:  Previously listed as H. canariensis hort. 'Gloire de Marengo'   The flowers are nectar rich and so loved by bees and when fruits are produced on mature plants then they are loved by birds.
