Escallonia laevis 'Pink Elle'

Escallonia laevis 'Pink Elle'

Description: Upright, compact, bushy award winning evergreen shrub with rich, glossy green foliage. Large heads of pretty pink fragrant flowers form in abundance at the ends of the branches from June to July and usually again in September. This shrub looks good all year round even when it is not providing a backdrop for the flowers.

Uses: A very useful shrub for screening and formal hedging especially in coastal conditions. Can be used as an alternative to box hedging or grown as an attractive shrub in its own right.

Climate/Position: Full sun.

Height/Spread: 1m x 1m

Soil Requirements: Any well drained soil. Drought tolerant.

Pruning: Remove spent flower heads to extend flowering. In mid or late spring lightly cut back any shoots to keep a good shape to the plant. After pruning apply a generous 5-7 cm (2-3in) mulch of garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.

Special Requirements: Plant breeder's rights apply (PBR).
