Description: A beautiful evergreen fern with upright arching fronds. Pale-green 'shuttlecocks' or pinnate fronds up to 1.2m tall, with about 20 pairs of leaflets and distinctive black stems that look a little different to most ferns. Very attractive when planted among other ferns or woodland plants in a shady border.

Climate/Position: Partial to full shade

Height/Spread: Fronds up to 1.2 metres

Soil Requirements: Moderately fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil.

Pruning: No pruning required but old fronds should be removed in spring to allow the new growth to uncurl.
