Description: A recent introduction of the Midland Hawthorn which has a profusion of red flowers with a white centre in spring.
A small deciduous tree useful for many locations including as a street tree. Glossy green leaves give good colour in the autumn together with red berries.
Climate/Position: Any, but best in full sun.
Height/Spread: 8 metres.
Soil Requirements: Prefers well drained soil but will also tolerate drought and some wet conditions.
Pruning: Generally not required unless maintaining shape.
The species is native to the UK and a number of cultivars have been available for many years with 'Paul's Scarlet' being the most common having double pink flowers.
