Description: A striking evergreen, palm-like tree with variegated sword-like leaves which are green, boldly striped with cream. Established plants may produce large hanging bunches of small flowers which are scented.

Suited to sunny dry gardens, for use as a focus point and makes an excellent container plant for patios.

Climate/Position: Full sun in a sheltered site as not fully hardy - can withstand temperatures down to -5°C

Height/Spread: Can reach 10 metres stem x 4 metres clusters of leaves

Soil Requirements: Needs a well drained soil

Pruning: Removal of dead or browning leaves as they die back leaving the palm like trunk. Remove flower stalks after flowering.

Special Requirements: Protect before the winter frosts by bundling up the foliage in a sleeve of sacking, wrapped around in several layers and then covered with a plastic bag to keep the leaves dry. Potted plants need moving to protection under glass for the winter.
