If you don’t know Styrax, now is the perfect time of year to be introduced.
Commonly known as the Snowbell Tree, Styrax are delicate flowering shrubs /small trees that flower happily throughout June bringing in subtle colour and scent. Bees find Styrax most attractive as we are sure you will once you have seen the fabulous hanging flowers.
Pendulous flowers hang delicately and in profusion along branches held in a graceful manner. This plant is a lady that’s for sure.
Although hardy they do benefit from a little protection and thrive when planted in amongst other plants of similar height. Happy in sun or partial shade in a moist neutral to acid soil. Slow to grow but well worth the effort and wait makes them an ideal choice for smaller spaces and gardens. Yellow- red autumn colour foliage is also a highlight later in the year.
Not often seen - it is certainly time to get acquainted with this lovely hardy shrub.
