Short description

Perennial cornflower, Mountain Bluet. A low spreading herbaceous perennial with greyish leaves and large flowers variable in colour from light blue to deep blue or blue-violet flowers in early summer. The solitary flowers are fringed, cornflower like (hence the common name) and have reddish blue centers and black-edged involucre bracts. Best massed in border fronts, cottage gardens or naturalized areas. A low-growing perennial found naturally in meadows and woods on the mountains of Europe. Equally at home in full sun or partial shade. Height and spread 45cm x 60cm, Best in moisture retentive but well-drained soils. Drought tolerant. Avoid rich, fertile soils
